A Brief Note on Ramu Reddiar School

Late Mr Ramu Reddiar, a notable philanthropist of this region, felt the need for a school in

Karingalikuppam to serve the needy children. Consequently, he built the present Ramu Reddiar

School in 1921. Great people always have a realistic vision, this legendary gentle man also had

one. Before he died he expressed the wish that the school be sold only to a Christian

Organization. Hence, the school came into the hands of SHARP Educational Trust. We foresee

a great deal of opportunity to uplift and enlighten the Dalit children in the school. In 2000 the

school bagged “The Best School Award” in the district.

The school is situated about 15 km away from Tiruvannamalai, 24 teachers presently have been committed to impart livelihood skills and education for the students. The School has in total

968 students among them the Dalit children are 503. This school is recognized and aided

by the government of Tamil Nadu. 

In Ramu Reddiar High School, We have intentions to extending educational facilities to children from over 15 villages. We do not want to let over 1,000 children and their families down, but have to observe the ‘Safety in Schools’ rules enforced by Government of Tamil Nadu after the fire accident in the Kumbakonam School. We have been doing our best to offer educational opportunities to these youngsters living in a deprived drought-ridden area. Most of these children live on an absolute minimum, so their families cannot contribute much to building needs.

Some of the Special Activities of our School.

• We have started saving scheme for the children to inculcate the habit of saving.

• Every first day of the week there is flag hoisting, and during all government functions we hoist flag.

• Rewarding system for 100% attendance

• During every national function the school conducts speeches and “Pattimantram” and awards were distributed for the best performing students.

• Our students have participated in Environmental Social Programme and drawing competitions and got first prize in district level in the last year.

• This year free books from the government was issued for 815 students.

• In the school library there are 1150 books.

• Our School has got big play ground to the extent of 1.9 acres

• Physical education teacher trains children in games, yoga and physical exercises every day.

• Our School garden encourages children to have plantation programme quite regularly.

• Students also encouraged to raise vegetables and medicinal plants.

• We also teach water conservation techniques.
